Authorities in Brazil have revealed to reporters that Arturo Gatti’s wife, Amanda Rodrigues, is one of their main suspects in the investigation of Gatti’s death. Early on Saturday morning, Gatti was found dead by wife in their rented condo at the seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas in Brazil. Brazilian police officials have said that inconsistencies in her testimony have given them grounds for suspicion. The couple was on a month’s vacation in the country.

Gatti was found with marks on his neck and some damage to the back of his head, the result of a hit from an unknown object they believe. Gatti’s wife told authorities that she and her husband were involved in a very heated verbal dispute on Friday night in a Brazilian bar. She alleges that Gatti was drunk when they came home.

The story on how and where Gatti’s body was discovered in the condo continues to change. The wife claims she went to sleep and woke up at 6am to take care of their one-year-old child. She thought Gatti was sleeping called for him and when she tried to wake him around 9am, she noticed he was dead. Police authorities say that he could have been dead for up to eight hours prior to their arrival to the scene of the crime. Police found a blood stained purse strap that one detective believes may have been used to strangle the fighter.

Police are still investigating and the wife is innocent until proven guilty.

Former champion Acelino Freitas was very close friends with Gatti, and told Brazilian reporters that he “knew Gatti and his wife were having some sort of problem and were about to separate.”

The Del Mar Racetrack Part II

An iconic mural featuring caricatures of more than 100 people – and several fleet-footed horses – who have shaped racing history is now on display at the Del Mar Racetrack.

The renowned racing artist Pierre “Peb” Bellocq installed the mural this week after spending nearly two years on the project.

The 30-foot-long, 6-foot-tall piece depicts legendary crooner Bing Crosby, who founded the racetrack in 1937 at the fairgrounds along with Jimmy Durante and Pat O’Brien, who are also pictured.

About half the people in the mural are living, and some will attend a dedication ceremony July 25.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, a private company that has a state contract to operate the annual horse races, commissioned the project to celebrate 70 years of racing. The racetrack was founded in 1937 but it closed for three years during World War II. The 70th season begins July 22.

“We went back and looked at all our history and photographs and looked through our media guides to see who made a mark at Del Mar over the years,” said Joe Harper, president and general manager of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club since 1978.

“We have photographs of all these people scattered around, and now you can see them together,” he said.

The acrylic mural, in the Clubhouse/Turf Club entryway, features many of the glamorous Hollywood stars who frequented the track in its early days, such as Ava Gardner, Betty Grable and Barbara Stanwyck. Others are the actor Robert Taylor and comedian W.C. Fields, both racing fans.

Among the living people depicted are horse trainer Bob Baffert and horse owner Jenny Craig, known for her weight-loss centers, who is pictured next to her late husband, Sid.

Harper himself is depicted wearing sunglasses in the center of the mural above his mother, horse owner Cecilia deMille Harper.

There are also notable horses, including Seabiscuit, who won a match race with Ligaroti in 1938. Dare and Go, who in 1996 beat Cigar – then considered the best horse in the country – is pictured smoking a cigar with a satisfied look on his face.

Surprised they didn’t extend and invite for me to be in this Mural (I would have respectfully declined).

After all, no one embodies the old-school RaceTrack better than your humble author.

And I have been the top Playboy there for the last ten years running.

Former legend of the ring Arturo Gatti has been found dead in a hotel bedroom in Brazil at the age of 37.

Early reports suggest foul play could be involved with signs of injury to the former world champion’s head.

He had arrived at the seaside resort of Porto de Galinhas with his wife and one-year-old son on Friday.

Gatti was known as the ‘human highlight reel’ for his blood and guts performances that earned him fans all over the world.

He held the IBF super-featherwight and WBC light-welterweight titles and was involved in a famous trilogy with ‘Irish’ Micky Ward, winning the last two contests on points.

However, despite later picking up the WBC belt his hard fights appeared to take their toll on the ‘Thunder’, who was past his best when Floyd Mayweather Jr took the title in 2005 with a sixth round stoppage.

He fought on, losing two of his next three fights before retiring in 2007 with a record of 40-9 with 31 wins by stoppage.

Matthew Bradbard: 50 Trading Principles

Matthew Bradbard: 50 Trading Principles

It is vital to have a trading plan when investing your hard earned capital. Many of these lessons may seem elementary, but what fascinates me is talking to fellow commodity traders over the years and finding there is still a lack of discipline.

Below you will find some common disciplines that as a Commodities trader you should abide by in most instances. Ironically this list was complied from a pamphlet printed 30 years ago entitled; “How Young Millionaires Trade Commodities” and virtually all the principles still apply. Supply and demand still rule the roost in determining pricing in commodities. Over the years the dynamics have certainly changed, but what hasn’t is human behavior, and the effects of greed and fear in the trading community. That is why principles that worked 3 decades ago still apply in today’s market.
1. Use money you can afford to lose – always trade with risk capital
2. Know yourself– be disciplined, always controlling your emotions
3. Start small – do not over commit until you learn the mechanics
4. Don’t over commit – always keep excess margin in your account
5. Isolate your trading from your desire for profit – try to eliminate “hope” from your trading plan

6. Don’t form new opinions during trading hours – do not let day to day fluctuations change your overall plan
7. Take a trading break– trading everyday may cloud your judgment
8. Don’t follow the crowd– if everyone is leaning one way it is most likely the wrong way
9. Block out other opinions – do not be influenced by others once you form an opinion
10. When you’re not sure, stand aside– it is ok to be in cash and not in the market
11. Try to avoid market orders– always using market orders to buy and sell shows a lack of discipline
12. Trade the most active option month – look for where the open interest and liquidity exists
13. Trade divergence between related commodities – large divergences within the same sector generally present an opportunity
14. Don’t trade too many commodities at once – following several markets at once is difficult and usually costly
15. Trade the opening range breakout – breaking out of the opening range generally sets the tone for the direction of the coming move
16. Trade the breakout of the previous day’s range– this helps getting in and out of positions
17. Trade the breakout of the weekly range – again like the daily breakouts use breakouts as buy and sell signals
18. Trade the breakout of the monthly range – the longer time frame the more market momentum behind your trading decision
19. Build a trading pyramid – when adding to a position add fewer contracts than your base commitment
20. Never put your entire position on at one price – let the market prove you are right

James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi Update

James “Whitey” Bulger and Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi Update

(Here is my Facebook, New Twitter and The G Manifesto Facebook Page)

Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi testified today that as he spent more time with his beautiful girlfriend, fellow gangster James “Whitey” Bulger grew jealous.

“Bulger kind of resented the fact that I didn’t spend enough time with him,” Flemmi, 75, said during the civil bench trial in US District Court. Flemmi recalled that he began skipping some of Bulger’s secret meetings with the FBI so he could be with Debra Davis.

“He would contact me and I wouldn’t respond,” Flemmi said, noting that he shut off his pager when he got home because “I didn’t want to be bothered … [Bulger] was very upset about it.”

That anger turned deadly when Bulger learned that Flemmi had told Davis about their relationship with the FBI.

“He wanted to kill her,” Flemmi said. “He wanted me to bring her down and set her up so he could kill her.”
