Why You Should Buy a Custom Suit

Why You Should Buy a Custom Suit

One of the most common questions I get when I am stopped on the Streets, Los Calles, and Las Avenidas of the world is: “Why should I buy a Custom Suit?”

Well, beyond the obvious, there are two main reasons:

Preserving an Artform

I have been known to a be a patron of the Arts (so to speak), and with Custom Suits, its no different.

In today’s age, the Tailor is an Endangered Species. These cats are old. And sadly, dying off. (Kind of like what Jim Rogers says about farmers and one of the reasons why the Agriculture sector is a solid long term play for your Bankroll).

I personally, don’t want to see that happen.

Help America

America is in pretty bad shape. One of many reasons we are in this position is because we don’t make anything anymore.

Last year, I moved over to an American Tailor. (Well, I am kind of lying, I still go to Savile Row every year to pick up some Custom Suits). My tailor is a legend in The Game and has made suits for Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra (and I won’t say any more because I don’t want to give away who he is.)

He charges a grip, but I would gladly pay double knowing how well they work. Hell, triple.

Bottom line, which would you rather wear?

A Custom Suit, made in The USA?

Or a glittery T-shirt and tight jeans made in China?

(If you answered the latter, go kill yourself. Or better yet, give me your address.)

For a young G on the rise, I don’t have the cash to drop on a custom suit.

My pops has a family tailor in Bangkok that rolls out some fresh tailored suits. Nice Italian cotton too. Swag when I need it.

  2. Tailors are slowly dying I do agree and it is such a shame! You are right, a good tailor made suit oozes class and with the rise of ‘off the shelf suits’ it is extremely rare to find someone in a tailored suit these days.

Thanks for the share and keep up the good work

I’m a big believer in the power of a tailored shirt, suit and pocket square. I’ve seen the women eye-fucking me when I stroll by with a smirk. I’ve been doing pretty well with a nice setup from Express but I feel it’s definitely time to upgrade to custom. Any tips Big G on finding a custom tailor, how much to expect to pay and what style(s) would be suitable for a mid-thirties man?

    MPM,

What do you think of Roberto Cavalli suits, are they over-rated or over-priced?

    Italian custom vs Savile Row?

    Who are the heavyweights?

Who do you recommend for a first custom suit?

    MPM,

What is the best place, or I should say, who is the best tailor for custom suits in Chicago?

    Thanks,

Turns out that wearing the clothes not only changes what other people think about you, it changes how YOU think. Wearing a doctor’s coat made people perform better on awareness and cognition tests. The implications of these studies give these posts some scientific credibility. Although the only credibility that matters to me is from the fly girlies putting their meat on my stick like shush-kabob.

Having Frank Sinatra at the bottom of this post seems very fitting! I agree, I always have said to customers in reply to ‘what is a perfect suit’ ‘whatever makes you feel good’!
