A motorcycle gang grabbed £2 million of jewels from an exclusive London store in just 39 seconds in a raid captured in dramatic detail on CCTV.

Six robbers on three motorcycles roared up the pavement to Mozafarian jewellers opposite Harrods in Knightsbridge.

One of the robbers smashed open the glass door with a sledgehammer before the gang, all wearing crash helmets, stormed in and smashed open display cabinets.

The haul of gems included a £500,000 diamond necklace. However, the robbers were unable to break their way into one display case containing further £3 million of gems.

Pouya Nikomagham, a sales assistant at Mozafarian, said that the highly organised gang members did not say a word as they raided the store.

“They were very professional, they knew what they were doing and where to go,” said Mr Nikomagham.

Lifestyle Design and Location Independence

Good article from Muse Life, by David Walsh about how Location Independence is only half the battle. Here are some highlights:

Everything ahead is based on personal experience. Though it’s bursting at the seams with judgement and condescending criticism, it’s also my own massive ego-check after rugged experimentation. It’s my realization that location independence is simply not enough and move back to the drawing board with unshakeable resolve for more.

1) Mobility is not Independence: Stop blurring the lines.

Mobility is as admirable a start as it is pathetic a finish. It is not wrong – it’s simply incomplete. Wireless isn’t freedom – it’s an extended leash. Call it whatever you want – it’s glorified telecommuting giving you an ever-greater sense of how big a world it is that you’re missing.

2) Perpetuation is not Elimination: Stop whoring your time for mobility. You deserve both.

When did we stop demanding time and mobility? Nearly half of all location independents work 40-50 hours a week. That’s a ridiculous number of people working absurd hours.

3) Mobility is not Fulfilling

A raw sampling of the work-supported location independent lifestyle…

Stockholm: After a flirtatious exchange with two of the most stunning blonde girls you’ve ever laid eyes upon, you’re unable to accept their invitation to their normally all-girls fondue pajama party, due to your extended client work review session that evening. For the first time ever, you actually feel a dream die.

4) Logistics is not Ingenuity: Stop saying anyone can do it.

Even very smart people work constantly from one place. Slightly smarter people can travel the world working constantly from any place. The ingenious ones eliminate non-passionate work entirely to make room for experience.

5) Enabling Passion is not Passion: Stop lying to yourself about loving what you do

Just because you’re doing something from a bungalow in Thailand doesn’t make it something you love. You just love that it lets you chill in a bungalow in Thailand. You would never rationalize like that if you were doing it from a dank Scranton office park.

“Here are the top ten scams that are currently trying to relieve unsuspecting consumers of their hard-earned money. These have been categorised into two groups. The first five are those that try and fool people into sending money directly to the bad guys – pretending to be in trouble, a job offer, a favour etc known as 419 or advance fee fraud.

“The second five detail scams whose purpose is to steal personal credentials and computer data to convince the bank to send money. Here, at least, most banks will return the lost funds to consumers unless the bank can prove they were reckless.”

1. Social Networking scams
Fraudsters hack a social networking account, such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or Bebo, and then contact friends and family of claiming that they are in trouble and need money to be sent immediately to a specified address.

2. Prediction scams
This scam arrives in the form of an e-mail that provides the results of a football game taking place the following day, at no cost. The next day the receiver discovers that the prediction is true. Over the next couple of weeks further e-mails are sent providing results that also turn out to be correct.

Following a number of e-mails, another one is sent offering the recipient the chance to buy the results of future games for a hefty sum. The trick is that most of the people who received e-mails would have had a wrong result and so fallen out of the process. But statistically, a small proportion of all the people involved would have received e-mails with the correct results each time.

3. Economy-related scams
Prying on those in financial trouble, these scams can be performed via internet, telephone or post and include a range of financial help and offers such as loan and debt consolidation, fix-your-credit-rating, repossession assistance, phoney advance loans and mortgage foreclosure rescue schemes.

4. “It’s me” scam
This is a scam that has been prevalent in Asia but is now being seen in the West. The fraudster calls an elderly person declaring that their granddaughter has been in a road accident. Cries for help are screamed down the phone line and the fraudster informs the person that money needs to be sent immediately to cover the medical costs.

5. The “offer you can’t refuse”
This involves the sale of a product for which the fraudster provides an overpayment in the form of a cashier’s cheque, usually stolen, and asks for the excess to be transferred back. This can also occur when targets are offered a job, for example, to earn 20% commission. They receive a £10,000 cheque and are then asked to deposit it and return £8,000. The cheque later bounces, by which time the £8,000 is already in the hands of the bad guys.

Separate Yourself from the Herd

Weekly Commentary
For August 17th– August 21st 2009
By: Matthew Bradbard

Why is it dangerous when most of the marketplace is leaning one way? Well, because most people lose money when they invest, so if you do what most do you will arrive at the same outcome. When the majority thinks the stock market is moving into a new bull market it is probably time for a correction, when most believe the US dollar is doomed it will presumably see higher ground, when the general market sentiment is that fed funds will be near zero indefinitely then we may actually see rates move higher sooner rather than later. The point being is when too many people lean in one direction it is generally a bad outcome. Think of yachtsman all running towards one side of a boat…you get the idea.

To find out exactly how we are positioning our clients in commodity futures and options, Contact us today at 1-888-920-9997.

Financials
Stocks: Both the S&P and the Dow closed almost at the exact price where the week started, talk about a market that may be running on fumes. Sellers continue to emerge around 1010 to 1015 in the S&P and we will be sellers at those levels with them on behalf of clients. Continue to accumulate puts and hold for a break to 960 is how we see it. 958 serves as the 38.3% Fibonacci retracement, the 50 day moving average comes in at 940 in September. The Dow should find resistance at 9425 and support at 9175 and then 8975. In the words of Warren Buffet we suggest booking profits as “you never go broke by taking a profit.” It may actually help you sleep better as well with less stock market exposure.

Bonds: The Fed concluded its 2 day meeting and kept rates unchanged at .125%, as expected. Their latest information “suggests that economic activity is leveling out.” They also confirmed that they are in the process of purchasing $300 billion of Treasury securities and expect to be done by October. September 30-yr bonds traded higher by 3’19 points last week closing back over the 40 day moving average. This level at 117’20 should now act as support. Resistance comes in at 119’16 followed by 120’10. September 10-yr notes were also higher last week, gaining 2’11.5 points. Support comes in at the 40 day moving average as well at 116’18 with resistance at 118’00 followed by 118’20. After last week’s gains in the Euro-dollar look to buy more puts this week. This will be a reoccurring theme as we will continue to advise selling rallies for the next several quarters. Our favored play is at the money or just out of the money puts in June and September 10’.
