How to Win at The Kentucky Derby

May 1st is a big day and the official start to the summer on The G Manifesto Calendar with The Kentucky Derby and Floyd Mayweather VS Sugar Shane Mosley.

Here is how you always can win at the Racetrack:

Your Running Partner must be short, like jockey short.

Find your mark in the crowd. The good thing is, The Racetrack has never had a shortage of suckers looking for “inside tips” and “sure things” as long as you have a little Street Sense (And I don’t mean 2007 Derby winner Street Sense, either).

Approach the mark, Custom Suited Down (very important) and introduce yourself all Charismatic-like (And I don’t mean 1999 Derby winner Charismatic, either) . “My name is Michael Mason”, shake the mark’s hand. “What horses are you betting on?

(Actually, use an alias or an AKA, and just so its straight, my AK was my AKA since before I learned my ABC’s and the courts sent me to AA and NA, and now it’s all A-OK, Ok?)

The mark usually says something like, “Not sure yet, have you got any picks?

Say, “No, I wish.” Then look around and say, “Wait, do you see that guy over there?”, while pointing to your running partner/“Jockey” who is busy writing down figures on a of paper.

The mark will usually say something like, “Yeah, I see him. Who is he?

Reply, “That is XXXX XXXXXX, the famous jockey. He works with Bob Baffert.” (Always insert the name of a famous trainer.)

Then get the mark thinking: “I wonder what he is working on?

The mark will say, “Me too”.

If only there was a way we could meet him…Screw it, let’s go talk with him.

Good idea”.

To the jockey, “Hi, Michael Mason, we were wondering what you were working on.

Um, I was just figuring out how much money I could make today”, the jockey says.

The mark will usually take it from there, “How do you know you will win?

Then the jockey will lower his voice Real Quiet and say, “I know I am going to win because I am racing. You two gentleman look like you can be trusted, but it must be strictly confidential. Ok? My boss is going to make a killing, and he let me have a piece of the action”. (And I don’t mean 1998 Derby winner Real Quiet, either).

Then say, “You wouldn’t mind sharing a little info would you?

Jockey says, “I can’t do that. No way. I always keep my word to the boss. If I leak the info, it will affect the odds. And my boss always puts his bets in at the last minute.

The mark is usually hooked with Greed at this time and will usually spew something like, “Damn. I thought you might have a tip for us.

Then say, “How about this, if you won’t tell us the horses, can you make bets for us when you do?

The jockey will consider this for a little bit, and say, “Sure, but I still can’t tell you the name of the horses.

Say, “That’s ok, I just want to hit a big bet, and here is $8,000.

The mark will inevitably say, “Here is my $7,500.

Jockey says, “Ok, I will meet you in The Turf Club after the sixth.

Leave with the mark, and enthusiastically get a “celebratory” cocktail. Hell, even buy it. And go for gin. (And I don’t mean 1994 Kentucky Derby winner Go for Gin, either).

Give the mark the slip.

There you go, that’s how you always win at The Kentucky Derby. Old-school hustler style.

Sans armes, Ni haine, Ni violence

See you there.

If you like to go a more conventional route and bet on The Kentucky Derby, listen to NW DC’s Andy Beyer:

“In the Kentucky Derby, more than any other race, pace is often a crucial determinant. When the pace is moderate — if, say, the first half-mile is run in 47 seconds or thereabouts — the early leaders often seize a tactical advantage. But every time the first half-mile of the Derby has been run in 45.4 seconds or faster, the pace has taken a destructive toll on all of the early pacesetters. After a 45.38 half-mile in 2005, the leaders collapsed, and the horses running 18-6-11-19 at the four-furlong mark wound up finishing 1-2-3-4, with Giacomo winning at 50 to 1. In 2001, when the pace was 44.86, the three early leaders wound up finishing 13th, 14th and 16th in the field of 17 as Monarchos and other stretch-runners dominated the race.

In a field in which it is hard to muster an ironclad conviction, Ice Box offers the best betting value. Based on the assumption that all the speed horses in the Derby will collapse, my play will be an exacta box of Ice Box and Lookin At Lucky.”

I was there to see Ice Box win at The Florida Derby. Impressive horse.

If you want to go by the “name system” and want a long shot, go with Paddy O’Prado and Jockey Kent Desormeaux.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather VS Sugar Shane Mosley Prediction

Here are some thoughts on the Floyd “Money” Mayweather VS Sugar Shane Mosley fight:

Power
Obviously, Sugar Shane Mosley has a significant edge in this department. However, Money Mayweather’s power is seriously underrated. Doubt Mayweather’s power? Watch the toughest boxer in recent memory, Arturo Gatti, wince in pain from Mayweather’s body shots. Speed plus precision equals damage.

Speed
“Life is about timing and inches,” Mayweather said. “Boxing is about timing and inches. I’m able to time a guy pretty well.”

Both Mosley and Mayweather are fast like Eddie Felson. Something tells me that Mayweather will make Mosley look a little slow on May 1st, and answer the question, “Will Shane Mosley be rusty after a 15 month layoff?” As far as the other big question out there, “How will Mayweather deal with Sugar Shane’s speed?” The answer is “timing”. Like my Grandfather, Michael James Mason V (an excellent boxer in his day, fought at Madison Square Garden) always said, “Good timing beats speed, power and size”.

Last Fight
Mayweather dominated the #3 pound for pound fighter in the world Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mosley destroyed Antonio Margarito.

Both fights were impressive wins. Keep in mind however, that Margarito was mentally screwed up after having his loaded handwraps discovered and was basically a punching bag for Shane.

Style
I think Mayweather has a huge edge here. Mosley tends to throw his punches a little wide whereas Mayweather throws them more straight. This could be a big advantage for Mayweather. Mosley also tries to “shake and bake” with his punches too much. Mayweather is more fluid. Mosley also has the tendency to get a little wild and lose focus. Mentally, Mayweather has the edge. Not to mention he has dominated the pre-fight Mental Warfare.

Killer Instinct
Mosley gets the edge here, although Mayweather is no slouch. If Sugar Shane can really hurt Mayweather, he can close the show.

The Jab
People always yap about how when Oscar De La Hoya used the jab, Mayweather was in trouble. Watch the fight again. The fight with Oscar wasn’t that close. It is hard to jab Mayweather when you get countered over top of it with straight rights. Also, Mosley’s jab has never been one of his strong suits. Furthermore on Mayweather’s De La Hoya win: He beat The Golden Boy at 154lbs unlike Pac-Man’s win a year and a half later at a draining, straining, 145lbs. Significant difference.

In fact, Mayweather’s jab to the body will be one of the most important punches in this fight. Watch for it. It is very subtle.

The Crowd
Boxing is like jazz. The better it is, the less people appreciate it.” – George Foreman

The crowd with be overwhelmingly pro-Mosley. It won’t be so Platinum Digger heavy, like when Oscar fought Mayweather, but it will still be rabidly for Sugar Shane. Mayweather is such an artist that the crowd misses many of the clean punches he lands. The crowd will also no doubt cheer fanatically for every glancing and blocked combo Sugar Shane throws. This does sway judges. Also, Las Vegas, historically speaking has been pro-West Coast fighters.

The Fight
Mosley really has a hard time winning this one. If he boxes Mayweather, he will lose for sure. If he attacks and tries to rough up Mayweather, then that also plays into Mayweather’s hands.

Expect Shane to start fast and try to bully Mayweather, as he should. By round 3, Mayweather will start to discourage Shane with defense and pin-point counters.

Through the middle rounds, Mayweather will be able to pot shot Mosley with straight right leads and left hooks. With Mayweather’s back to the ropes, Shane will have some moments, but Mayweather’s underrated infighting, chin and pushing off on Shane’s eyeball with his elbow, will give as good as he gets.

The pivotal point in the fight will happen around the 8th round when Shane gets his second wind and tries to change the fight. If he can land a looping punch, which Mayweather can get touched by (see his fight with Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley), the fight could change. But even then, I think Floyd’s defense and chin will hold up.

Rounds 10 thru 12, Mayweather will keep landing crisp shots, and possibly cut Shane and chop him up like Mark “Chopper” Read.

Look for a close decision for Mayweather on the cards and a wider margin in reality. 8 rounds to 4 for Mayweather, with a slight chance of a late round stoppage.

Mosley’s real chances are like I said before, landing a big looping punch that changes the fight or a fishy crowd influenced Las Vegas decision.

Smart money on Money Mayweather. Hell, if you are like me and have bet on Floyd every fight he has ever fought (except the Diego Corrales fight), you will end up in the black no matter what the outcome is.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR & MANNY PACQUIAO signed BOXING Glove

Update:

Floyd Mayweather Sr putting to rest the “Mayweather has been Ducking Shane” talk:

Shane Mosley is thirty-eight and he’s coming to fight Floyd too late. You know, he’s coming to fight Floyd too late. If he had a chance, maybe he should have done it a few years ago. Floyd challenged Shane Mosley when Shane Mosley was at his best pound for pound fighter at that time at 135 pounds. Floyd challenged him when little Floyd had just won the championship at 130, the junior lightweight champion. Shane was the lightweight champion but Floyd was the junior lightweight champion and we challenged Shane, and they denied us and they did not take the challenge. They did not take the challenge. Now, he’s fighting because it’s a must—have to fight, got to fight, need to fight. That’s why he’s fighting us now. He has to, he must.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Custom Suits

“They say it’s lonely at the top, in whatever you do
You always gotta watch m*therfuckers around you
Nobody’s invincible, no plan is foolproof
We all must meet our moment of truth” – Guru

People always say, “All he talk about is money. All he do is show his cars.” Most of the time you get that from a broke m*therfucker because they can’t afford the finer things in life. I am a risk-taker. I live in Vegas. You got to be a risk-taker. If I can afford the finer things in life, why not go and get them?

You can’t take none of this sh*t with you when you go away. The only thing you take with you is the suit you got on and hopefully that’s a Custom Suit.

Well said Floyd. Must have been reading The G Manifesto.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and your your humble author; the only two out there talking about the value of the Custom Suit.

Tomasz Adamek defeats Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola

Tomasz Adamek defeats Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola

Manny Pacquiao Autographed / Signed Rare Grant Glove

(Here is my Facebook, New Twitter and The G Manifesto Facebook Page)

It was an explosive atmosphere at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA for Saturday night’s main event between Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola, 28-2 (25) and Tomasz Adamek, 41-1 (27). This is the way it would and should be if the heavyweights weren’t considered dead in the United States; raucous action between two giant male humans, a nationalistic set of crowds representing Adamek’s Poland and Arreola’s Mexican-American contingent. Hell of a fight night, folks. The action was all Adamek beating Arreola to the punch in the opening rounds but, toward the middle of the battle, Arreola began to ramp up his violence and started landing heavyweight thunder to Adamek’s former light heavy and cruiserweight lightning. Down the stretch, it was Adamek’s fight to lose on the cards, but anyone’s game in the ring as both men were tired, hungry and landing heavy leather. In the end, however, it was Adamek scoring the win, taking a majority decision with scores of 114-114 (ridiculous), 115-113, and 117-111.

Source

This was the best Heavyweight fight I have seen in a long time. But then again, I can’t even remember the last Heavyweight fight I watched.

Arreola showed a lot of heart in fighting on with what appeared to be a broken hand. Very Arturo Gattiesque.

He also was very gracious in defeat with a very cuss filled post fight interview.

“I hurt my hand in the fifth round but I kept going,” said Arreola. “I hurt it again in the ninth and the tenth real bad. He’s got a hard f**king head. He hit me so hard, I look like f**king ‘Shrek’ now.”

In the undercard, Alfredo Angulo kept up a steady attack against the faster Joel Julio. Julio has the reputation of being a big puncher too, but he never gave himself the chance, because he wouldn’t set himself. Angulo proved that one way to deal with speed is to throw short straight punches, and to keep letting your hands go. As a result, Angulo continually landed the sharper, more damaging blows.

In the eleventh round, Angulo dipped in and to his left. At the same time he let go of his right which went right over the top of Julio’s pawing left. Bang! Flush on the jaw was the impact of the punch, and Julio went down with a thud. He managed to beat the count, but the referee correctly waived off any further action and saved Julio from further punishment. So the fighter with the dog collar earned himself a spectacular victory and the interim WBO light middleweight title.

Springtime Swooping

(Here is my Facebook, New Twitter and The G Manifesto Facebook Page)

It amazes me every Spring how girls that were dead accounts turn into re-activated accounts. Just in the last week I have had at least 12 girls recontact me to re-open their account.

The best way to swoop mad girls during Spring?

Swoop massive amounts of girls the rest of the year. Swooping girls begets swooping more girls. Open so new accounts, and you have a dope Spring, like your humble author.

Either way, the official start of Summer is May 1st on The G Manifesto Calendar. And it will kick off the right way with The Kentucky Derby and Floyd “Money” Mayweather VS Sugar Shane Mosley.

Then its time to go to Europe to swoop topless girls.
