Banksy Gets Up in Bethlehem Again

Banksy bombs the security wall in Bethlehem with six new pieces. It coincides with the annual month-long Santa’s Ghetto exhibit. The exhibit will also feature works of James Cauty, Ron English, Swoon, Trash, Blu, and Sam 3 among others.

Banksy had previously got up on the security wall back in 2005 with nine pieces.

It is said that half the population in the area is unemployed primarily because tourism has suffered in the area.

Banksy has said, “You wouldn’t worry about Christmas becoming too commercial in Bethlehem — they couldn’t afford it. There’s more festive lights in the window of your local Woolworths than you’ll find in this entire town,”

“It would do good if more people came to see the situation here for themselves. If it is safe enough for a bunch of sissy artists then it’s safe enough for anyone,” he added.

By bringing attention to the area, Banksy hopes that it will boost tourism.

Now, who said Graffiti is criminal?

Graffiti Artist Banksy might have been spotted in the Act

Graffiti Artist Banksy might have been spotted in the Act

Banksy, the dope Graffiti artist, might have been caught in a picture for the first time while painting. He was caught on a camera phone extending double yellow lines from a road on to a wall of a house to form a big yellow flower (I can’t stand camera phones).

An East London council has declared a zero tolerance policy to graffiti and street art but word on the street is the wall is private property.

This news comes after 10 of Banksy’s pieces sold for more that $900,000, well above the prediction of $600,000, like I predicted: Banksy: Art and Thieves go hand in hand.

The best part about Banksy is that he has become so embraced by the establishment that he is against. Now that’s G.

Banksy: Art and Thieves go hand in hand

Ten Original works of art by Banksy are going up for auction on Wednesday. The pieces are expected to generate $600,000. I expect they will generate more.

This is a great opportunity as Banksy’s work is rarely up for sale. Back in April four were auctioned at Bonhams.

I have always have had much respect for Banksy in particular and street art in general. He deserves mad props for his artwork as much as he does for his anonymity. Especially in this world of weesh Celebrities.

Four Paintings Heisted in Nice, France

Four Paintings Heisted in Nice, France

Five men pulled off a bold day time heist at the Beaux-Arts Museum in Nice, France. The Heistmen entered the Museum, took four paintings, put them in bags and escaped.

The Impressionist works that changed possession were “Falaises pres de Dieppe” (Cliffs near Dieppe) by Claude Monet, and Alfred Sisley’s “Alle de peupliers de Moret” (The lane of poplars at Moret). The “Falaiises pres de Dieppe” is exceptionally Beautiful.

Two Baroque paintings changed hands as well. “Allegorie de l’eau” (Allegory of Water) and “Allegorie de la terre” (Allegory of Earth) by Flemish painter Jan Breugel.

I am very familiar with these paintings and have visited the Beaux-Arts Museum many times during my stays on The French Riviera. This job most likely done “to order” as these paintings would be very hard to move unless you already had a buyer due to their high-profile.

No one was hurt in the heist, unless you want to count the Insurance company.

Retrial in Austria’s Greatest Art Heist

» 09 March 2007 » In Art, Crime, Guide » 6 Comments

Retrial in Austria’s Greatest Art Heist

There is going to be a retrial the man who pulled of Austria’s most spectacular art heist from Vienna’s Art History Museum. Robert Mang, an alarm systems expert, was already sentanced him to four years in prison. He is getting the retrial on a separate charge of attempted extortion after he allegedly threatened to destory the prized work “Saliera” or salt cellar by Florentine Renaissance master Benvenuto Cellini (valued at $66.5 million by my estimations). “Saliera” was recovered after Mang turned himself in.

Papoose’s What Makes Me, Me

This heist was all wrong for many reasons. First of all, you never and I repeat never turn yourself in. Leave the country, hide out, do anything but admit defeat. Second, you never go the “extortion” route with heisted art. It never works out and threatening to destroy beautiful art pieces is wack. You have to have respect for The Game. It is always best to line up a buyer Before your heist. Third, although Benvenuto Cellini is a great artist, some of his other art is too homoerotic for my tastes (In Mang’s defense, there is a pretty fly girl, for those days anyway, in “Saliera”). That being said, Cellini was also known to date many of the female models he worked with. Dating female models is something I can apperciate…..The Rest is Up to You…..
