Style Wars: Banksy Piece Vandalized

A graffiti artist has vandalised a Banksy image in Hendon in an apparent show of disdain towards his fellow spray painter.

Less than a month after the painting appeared on the wall of a substation at the junction with the A1 and the A406 North Circular Road, it has been defaced by another urban artist.

Before being targeted, the image depicted a boy seemingly marking the wall of a power station with the words “Last Graffiti Before Motorway”.

But over the weekend someone painted the word “PRICE-LESS” across the wall, with one national paper yesterday running pictures of him in action.

Some have suggested it is a protest by another artist who may believe Banksy has forgotten the “true meaning” of urban art following his success.

Members of the Banksy Forum website, which follows the artist’s work, have condemned the art attack, with one member saying the perpetrator is “jealous, and bitter”.

Another man, who calls himself buddings, responded to suggestions Banksy only carries out work for financial gain, by writing: “I don’t get this at all.

“Banksy wasn’t paid to do it, he wasn’t hoping someone would sell the wall. Banksy could have done the same image on a canvas from the comfort of his studio for a massive amount of money but instead goes out in the middle of the night and gives London a little gift.”

He added: “How the hell does this remind Banksy of what urban art is all about?“

Forum member happy shopper said: “Obviously done by an idiot with no style at all.”

This kind of stuff has been going on since the beginning of Graffiti. For modern times proof, check Style Wars (one of my favorite all time movies).

Sure it was a wack throw up, but Banksy knows The Game.

Peter Schiff: The Crisis Just Begun

Buy Crash Proof: How to Profit From the Coming Economic Collapse by Peter Schiff

Good video on by Peter Schiff and Aaron Task:

The Mother of All Bells

There is an old adage on Wall Street that no one rings a bell at major market tops or bottoms. That may be true in normal times, but as many have noticed, we are now completely through the looking glass. In this parallel reality, Ben Bernanke has just rung the loudest bell ever heard in the foreign exchange and government debt markets. Investors who ignore the clanging do so at their own peril. The bell’s reverberations will be felt by everyday Americans, whose lives are about to change in ways few can imagine. While nearly every facet of America’s economy has been devastated over the past six months, our national currency has thus far skipped through the carnage with nary a scratch. Ironically, the U.S dollar has been the beneficiary of the global economic crises which the United States set in motion. As a result, our economy has thus far been spared the full force of the storm.

This week the Federal Reserve finally made clear what should have been obvious for some time – the only weapon that the Fed is willing to use to fight the economic downturn is a continuing torrent of pure, undiluted, inflation. The announcement should be seen as a game changer that redirects the fury of the financial storm directly onto our shores.

In its statement, the Fed announced its intention to purchase an additional $1 trillion worth of U.S. treasury and agency debt. The purchases, of course, will be made with money created out of thin air through the Fed’s printing presses. Few can doubt that they will persist with these operations until the economy returns to its former health. Whether or not this can ever be accomplished with a printing press alone has never been seriously considered. Bernanke himself admits that we are in uncharted waters, with no map or compass, just simply a hope that more dollars are the answer.

Rather than solving our problems, more inflation will only add to the crisis. Falling asset prices, the credit crunch, declining consumer spending, bankruptcies, foreclosures, and layoffs are all part of the necessary rebalancing of our economy. These wrenching movements, however painful, are the market’s attempts to resolve the serious problems at the root of our bubble economy. Attempts to literally paper-over these problems will lead to disaster.

“I have always been fascinated by life, on just about anything and everything. I mean, sure I am not going out and buying million dollar airplanes and running around in beautiful boats. The most fascinating thing in life to me is chasing beautiful women.”

Spoken like a true Old-School G. Smooth hair too.

Lets hope Marky Mark and Dicaprio don’t turn Cocaine Cowboys into another hack-job Hollywood movie.

Mexico’s most wanted man, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, is one of 38 new billionaires.
For eight years Joaquín Guzmán Loera reportedly managed his international drug smuggling operation from behind bars while enjoying a lavish prison life with access to booze, women and a home entertainment system. Then in January 2001, facing extradition to the U.S., Guzmán slipped into a laundry cart and escaped.

Since then “El Chapo,” or Shorty, as he is called, has tightened his grip on Mexico’s drug trade as head of the Sinaloa cartel, one of the biggest suppliers of cocaine to the U.S. It is a lucrative business to be in these days. Thirty-five million people in the U.S. use narcotics or abuse prescription drugs, spending more than $64 billion annually. The Drug Enforcement Agency and other industry experts believe Guzmán, 54, has controlled anywhere from a third to half of the wholesale Mexican drug market over the past eight years. In 2008 Mexican and Colombian traffickers laundered between $18 billion and $39 billion in proceeds from wholesale shipments to the U.S., according to the U.S. government. Guzmán and his operation likely grossed 20% of that–enough for him to have pocketed $1 billion over his career and earn a spot on the billionaires list for the first time.

I normally dislike corporate CEO’s. But this guy is a great businessman that actually delivers. So to speak.

Leonardo Notarbartolo: The World’s Biggest Diamond Heist

Excellent story of the Heist of the Antwerp Diamond Center:

It was February 16, 2003 — a clear, frozen Sunday evening in Belgium. Notarbartolo took the E19 motorway out of Antwerp. In the passenger seat, a man known as Speedy fidgeted nervously, damp with sweat. Notarbartolo punched it, and his rented Peugeot 307 sped south toward Brussels. They hadn’t slept in two days.

Speedy scanned the traffic behind them in the side-view mirror and maintained a tense silence. Notarbartolo had worked with him for 30 years—they were childhood buddies—but he knew that his friend had a habit of coming apart at the end of a job. The others on the team hadn’t wanted Speedy in on this one—they said he was a liability. Notarbartolo could see their point, but out of loyalty, he defended his friend. Speedy could handle it, he said.

And he had. They had executed the plan perfectly: no alarms, no police, no problems. The heist wouldn’t be discovered until guards checked the vault on Monday morning. The rest of the team was already driving back to Italy with the gems. They’d rendezvous outside Milan to divvy it all up. There was no reason to worry. Notarbartolo and Speedy just had to burn the incriminating evidence sitting in a garbage bag in the backseat.Notarbartolo pulled off the highway and turned onto a dirt road that led into a dense thicket. The spot wasn’t visible from the highway, though the headlights of passing cars fractured through the trees. Notarbartolo told Speedy to stay put and got out to scout the area.

He passed a rusty, dilapidated gate that looked like it hadn’t been touched since the Second World War. It was hard to see in the dark, but the spot seemed abandoned. He decided to burn the stuff near a shed beside a small pond and headed back to the car.

When he got there, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Speedy had lost it. The contents of the garbage bag was strewn amongst the trees. Speedy was stomping through the mud, hurling paper into the underbrush. Spools of videotape clung to the branches like streamers on a Christmas tree. Israeli and Indian currency skittered past a half-eaten salami sandwich. The mud around the car was flecked with dozens of tiny, glittering diamonds. It would take hours to gather everything up and burn it.

“I think someone’s coming,” Speedy said, looking panicked.

Notarbartolo glared at him. The forest was quiet except for the occasional sound of a car or truck on the highway. It was even possible to hear the faint gurgling of a small stream. Speedy was breathing fast and shallow—the man was clearly in the midst of a full-blown panic attack.

“Get back in the car,” Notarbartolo ordered. They were leaving. Nobody would ever find the stuff here.

The job was done.
