‘Not an icon, just a con’: Dinnertime bandit gets 15-year stretch

Alan Golder, convicted of two Greenwich burglaries as the so-called “Dinnertime Bandit,” was sentenced to 15 years in prison in state Superior Court in Stamford on Friday.

Golder was found guilty in August on four charges stemming from two Greenwich burglaries occurring in 1997, one on Sept. 25 on Woodside Road and another on Oct. 28 at a Round Hill Road residence. On Friday he received 10 years for each count of burglary, 12 years for a larceny conviction and 15 years for kidnapping. The sentences are to run concurrently.

After his release, Golder must serve 10 years of special parole, according to the sentence handed down by Judge John Kavanewsky.

In a statement to the court prior to sentencing, Golder told the judge he was confused as to the charges he was convicted on and blamed the outcome of the case on the legal work of his attorney, Howard Ehring.

“I believe Howard Ehring sold me out,” said Golder. “I think the jury was confused when they found me guilty.”

“Mr. Golder, you may have some grandiose illusions that you are an icon in the industry,” Kavenewsky said to Golder. “But put simply, you are a convict.”

An international jewel thief will serve a year in Westchester County jail for swiping thousands of dollars in diamonds from a Yorktown jeweler nearly 20 years ago.

Moshe Tsitsaushivili, a 41-year-old from the republic of Georgia, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny yesterday in connection to the 1989 theft.

He was accused of stealing $30,000 to $35,000 in diamonds from the Yorktown jewelry business, but prosecutors charged him with second-degree grand larceny, which is for stolen goods worth more than $50,000.

He also is wanted in jewelry thefts in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio, but the biggest yet may be a $1.5 million jewel heist out of New South Wales from 1997 – one of the largest diamond heists in the history of Sydney, Australia.

CS: What is it about “Cocaine Cowboys” that made you want to produce the film?

Wahlberg: It’s just the most amazing story I’ve seen. The documentary was fantastic. The stuff that these guys were doing down there in Miami was just crazy. We’re going to make “Scarface” times 10. I know that’s a big feat, but this is the real deal.

The birthplace of one of Mexico’s most infamous drug cartels looks more and more like its graveyard. Gunmen and associates of the Arellano Felix cartel, rulers of the city’s criminal underworld for two decades, are being massacred by the score.

Their mangled bodies turn up in garbage-strewn lots, a dozen at a time. Killers cut out their tongues, slice off heads, and leave behind taunting messages. Two barrels of industrial acid left on a sidewalk last week are believed to contain liquefied human remains.

In all, at least 57 suspected organized crime members, a majority of them believed to be part of the Arellano Felix organization, were killed in the last week, including 12 dumped in front of an elementary school Sept. 29 and eight tossed in an industrial yard Thursday.

As the body count in a deadly battle between feuding drug gangs grew Wednesday – nine bodies were found between Tijuana and Rosarito Beach – Baja California’s governor announced that federal forces, including the Mexican army, will increase their presence in the state.

Officials said they were still working to identify the bodies and determine how they died. They suspect the slayings are part of the ongoing battle between rival drug gangs that has seen bunches of bodies appear throughout the state in the last few weeks, mostly in Tijuana. The most dramatic episode was a running gunbattle that saw hundreds of bullets fired on one of the city’s main streets.

The violence seems to be spreading across the state with the killing Tuesday of two state police officers in Mexicali, the state capital, according to the attorney general’s office.
