The saga of “Dinnertime Bandit” Alan Golder ended today in Stamford Superior Court as he was convicted of kidnapping, two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of first-degree larceny.
He was found not guilty on several other charges.
Golder, accused of burglarizing the homes of wealthy Greenwich people as they ate dinner, was found guilty in connection with two burglaries in which a prosecution witness and admitted accomplice said he drove Golder to commit the crimes.
Golder had admitted to a successful run of jewel heists from estates along the East Coast and California from 1975 to 1980 that resembled the Greenwich crimes, including the homes of late-night television host Johnny Carson and singer Glen Campbell.

Evidence linking the accused Dinnertime Bandit in a career as a cat burglar to a series of Greenwich burglaries is unfairly prejudicial and should be suppressed, his lawyer, Howard Ehring, said Tuesday at Stamford Superior Court.
Opening statements in the trial of Alan Golder, the 53-year old New York man who is accused of four Greenwich break-ins a decade ago, was set to begin Tuesday afternoon.
The perpetrator of the crimes has been called the Dinnertime Bandit in reference to his hallmark method of breaking into homes in the early evening to steal valuable jewelry while his victims were in the house and unaware of his presence.
Ehring is seeking to quash testimony by Robert Liebman, who is expected to testify that he drove Golder to Greenwich to commit several burglaries.
“Physical evidence touted by the police and prosecutors does little to link Alan Golder to the crime,” Ehring said
Good enough for me, I think The Dinnertime Bandit should be innocent on all charges.

South American Jewel Thieves Targeting Smaller Cities
Allegedly, a violent, well-organized ring of South American jewelry thieves is expanding its operations away from large metropolitan areas such as New York, Miami, Houston and Chicago and hitting targets in smaller cities in the South.
In one incident in Little Rock, diamond merchant Faramarz Hakimian, 48, of New York had just pulled into the parking lot of an upscale strip mall July 29 when two masked men jumped out of a black Chevrolet behind him, smashed his car windows, pulled a gun and told him to lie down on the seat. The assailants took his keys and stole a satchel with half a million dollars’ worth of jewelry from the car’s back seat, all in broad daylight in front of witnesses at the jewelry shop that Hakimian had come to visit.
Between April 22 and May 15 in Houston, at least $3.5 million worth of jewelry was stolen in six robberies, which the FBI considers related and linked to the South American ring. On May 14, a jewelry merchant was robbed at a gas station. Despite massive media and law enforcement attention, the next day another salesman was pistol-whipped and robbed in a Waffle House where he had stopped for lunch.
